If you’re searching for a warm and welcoming home restaurant in Chieti province, just outside Fara San Martino – Abruzzo’s renowned pasta capital – you’ll find an unforgettable supper club that celebrates international flavours and the joy of gathering.
This monthly home restaurant, hosted by Molly and Max, is a culinary love letter to those who’ve made Abruzzo their new home but still crave a taste of elsewhere. Former restaurateurs from the UK, the couple now create cosy, flavour-packed experiences that fuse the best of local ingredients with global inspiration — perfect for those seeking a delicious dash of diversity in their Abruzzese life.
Their terrace suppers offer a carefully curated menu that feels both comforting and exciting. On our visit, the evening began with a vibrant polenta verde, subtly spiced with broccoli and chilli, grilled and topped with a rich sweet pepper ragù. This was followed by a refreshing lemon and beetroot barlotto – a twist on risotto using pearl barley – finished with crumbled feta for a bright, tangy finish.
For the secondo, we were served a beautifully hearty mixed meat Potjie, a South African stew full of clove-scented warmth and sweetened with sliced apricots – a surprising and delightful summer dish. The homemade Irish soda bread on the side was perfect for mopping up every last drop.
Dessert was pure grown-up nostalgia: a sparkling, boozy summer fruit jelly with ice cream – a playful, refreshing end to a meal before liqueurs and coffee.
Set beneath the stars on their beautiful terrace, with fireflies glowing in the olive grove and the moon casting a silvery light, the setting couldn’t have been more magical. Yes, it’s a little tucked away – but that’s all part of the charm.
And when the cooler, crisper months arrive, the experience shifts seamlessly indoors. In late autumn and winter, dinner becomes a leisurely lunch, served in the couple’s inviting home, where the same warmth and attention to detail continues – seasonal plates designed for crisp days.
This isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience – a gathering of kindred spirits, sharing stories, flavours, and laughter. Perfect for newcomers to Abruzzo or long-time residents craving a dinner that reflects both their journey and their palate. A truly special home restaurant worth every kilometre.
