When buying a house in Abruzzo, especially in mountain villages like Pacentro, don’t just ask about the temperature. Also, find out when the sun reaches the house in winter.

Due to the steep terrain and the low angle of the winter sun, some streets and lower historic centres can stay in shadow for much of December and January. This is not bad weather; it is simply geography.

Homes without winter sun can feel colder, damper, and darker, even on bright days. If you are sensitive to low light or experience Seasonal Affective Disorder, living in the shadows for weeks may not be the best choice.

How to Check Before You Buy

You can check this from anywhere:

Enter the property location, set the date to December, and see when direct sunlight reaches the building.

Tip: If possible, visit in winter and observe the natural light on the street, not just the view!
