Italy’s 2022 climate livability index results are in, and Abruzzo’s fared quite well out of the 108 Italian cities that participated! The survey is conducted by iLMeteo.it and Corriere della Sera who base their findings and listings on 14 parameters that identify the optimal environmental conditions for well-being within Italy’s cities as our climate emergency unfolds. Hilly towns by the sea that enjoy a welcome summer breeze fare best, especially those located on the Adriatic coast.

- L’Aquila – 26/108
- Teramo – 33/108
- Pescara – 36/108
The parameters include summer breeze, humidity comfort, temperature range, cold days, rainy days, heat index, fog, tropical nights, daytime cloud cover, heat wave, heavy rain, wind gusts, drought and hours of sunshine.
Do drill through the figures; Chieti, with a score of 692 scored well for heat waves but came in at 82/108 for temperature range. L’Aquila is in the lead for heavy rains, though close to the bottom for the total cold days!
On a national level, Macerata is the Italian city where people live best from the point of view of the climate; Savona and Matera follow. At the bottom of the ranking are Olbia, Cremona and Catania.
