Join us for a relaxed and informal Sunday Christmas ‘Pop up’ over lunch and wine in Villamagna (CH)
This year’s Christmas ‘Come Together’ brings us to Villamagna, a small medieval town in the province of Chieti, famous for its exceptional wines and breathtaking setting, just 10 km from the Adriatic’s beaches and offering great views of the hopefully snow-tipped Maiella mountain. Its centuries-old vocation for viticulture has created one of the smallest appellations in the world, the Villamagna DOC, known for wines that are powerful yet elegant – a caress in a fist.
Valle Martello, a family-run winery now in its third generation, will welcome us. They have 50 hectares of vineyards. Their country house and B&B, Torre Monache, sits among vineyards and olive trees, creating the perfect spot for a relaxed Abruzzese Christmas Sunday. To make it easier for families to come, kids can come for FREE, and there are enough options to please any vegetarians or vegans. Small dogs are welcome too.
What’s Planned
- A relaxed village walk through beautiful Villamagna, with its medieval charm and sweeping vineyard views. (10.15)
- Winery tour and tasting at Valle Martello, discovering Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Cococciola and the rare Villamagna DOC. (11.30)
- We’ll enjoy an informal festive lunch at Torre Monache, featuring a generous spread of local dishes like traditional antipasti, warm timballo, their special porchettina arrotolata, fresh bread, and house wines. To finish, we’ll have a festive treat: artisanal panettone al Villamagna DOC made with a Villamagna DOC reduction and the winery’s own Montepulciano d’Abruzzo sultanas. (13.00)

Local honey, oil, wine, panettone, and preserves are available for purchase in Valle Martello. Alternatively, combine this with a Christmas Shopping excursion afterwards, Chieti’s Megalò shopping centre is just 25 minutes away, and the twinkling lights and stalls of Caramanico Terme’s Christmas Market are 50 minutes away.
