Il Bosso is a tour operator specialising in adventure and education, located between the Gran Sasso and the Trabocchi coast, and has offered remarkable outdoor activities across Abruzzo since 1999. The highlight of the tour is the canoeing trip on the Tirino, during which small groups paddle upstream from Capestrano to the springs at a slow and leisurely speed, with a guide in each canoe giving an English account of the valley en route, such as the water celery that still grows along the banks, the old mills, and the fact that the priests used the spring water to make paper. On the way back, the guides keep quiet and let the wildlife take centre stage: herons, kingfishers, and the quiet rustling of the reed beds. Previous canoeing experience is not necessary, as the current is mild and each canoe carries two adults and a young child in addition to the guide, making it suitable for families. Trips are available year-round, with departures every hour during the height of summer; special full-moon trips and combined days visiting the nearby Stiffe caves are also offered.
