What do I love most about seeing the Giro d’Italia in Abruzzo? The anticipation and then the swoosh of vivid colours that sweep past and almost catch you off balance as you try desperately to swivel & stay with the leaders and a view of spandex-clad lean bottoms.

Just like a rainbow, one minute it’s there in vivid glory the next the street is empty, as the crowd shifts down a gear, triumphant that they saw Italy’s speediest act of ‘passione’; the advertising hoardings are dismantled and put on trucks ready for their equally short tv slot on tomorrow’s tappa…

2023 sees the 106th race start in Abruzzo!
