Roots: A Virtual Chat with Domenico Cornacchia and Canadian Returnee, Ivana Sabatucci

Join us for an engaging online discussion delving into the heart of Abruzzo with acclaimed young author Domenico Cornacchia and a special guest, Ivana Sabatucci, a returnee from Hamilton Canada to Italy whose parents were from the area in northern Abruzzo featured in Domenico’s book.

Part 1: Journey through Time

Domenico Cornacchia kicks off the event by providing insights into the inspiration behind his book, ‘Roots’ that has been tranlated into English and is now available on Amazon internationally with local shipping. Rather than a lament about difficult times, it proudly details life in his rural village and many others. Learn about the cultural richness, history, and familar ties that form the backbone of life in the nineties to present time, much of which was the same a century ago and why he stayed unlike so many young people in Abruzzo today. Please note Domenico where possible will speak in English, but Ivana will translate for him where required.

Part 2: Excerpts

Experience the enchanting but hard life of families in Abruzzo through selected readings from the book. Domenico, Ivana and Sam will share passages that provide an insight into the traditions, stories and rythmn of Abruzzo.

Part 3: Returnee Chronicles

Hear the short personal narrative of our special guest, Ivana a Canadian who made the life-changing decision to return to Italy with her parents and reconnect with their Abruzzese roots. Why she continues to keep and visit her family home in Abruzzo.

Part 4: Q&A Session

A dynamic question-and-answer session with both Domenico and Ivana.

Part 5: Community Conversations

Participants are encouraged to share their own stories, ask questions, and connect with others who share a passion for Abruzzo.
