Sulmona’s Easter Sunday Running Madonna
5 April @ 11:00 - 12:00 CEST

Sagre, feste, markets and cultural happenings across Chieti, Pescara, Teramo and L’Aquila, gathered in one place.

The La Madonna che Scappa ceremony, organized by the Santa Maria di Loreto Brotherhood, has been an integral part of Sulmona’s cultural fabric since the 11th century. This Easter Sunday morning re-enactment adds a captivating layer of charm to the city’s already rich tapestry of traditions and features the Madonna running through the piazza in Sulmona in celebration of her son’s resurrection.
For locals and visitors, experiencing La Madonna che Scappa is not just a spectacle, but an opportunity to enter into the soul of Sulmona, to feel the echoes of the past reverberating through its streets and squares. It is a reminder of the enduring power of tradition to inspire, enrich, and unite communities, transcending time and space to touch the hearts of those who participate.
