Alba Fucens (AQ) – Feast of the Holy Relics | Easter Monday
6 April

📍 Alba Fucens, Abruzzo
📅 Easter Monday | Morning to Early Afternoon
Step into centuries of tradition this Easter Monday at the Feast of the Holy Relics in the ancient Roman town of Alba Fucens. This unique event dates back to the 17th century, when pilgrims began gathering to venerate sacred relics housed in the Church of San Pietro , an atmospheric spot built on the ruins of a Roman temple.

Each year, the morning begins with traditional fireworks, the laying of a wreath to the fallen, and Holy Mass. There is a solemn procession through the stone-paved lanes and on the original Roman road from the parish church of San Nicola to the church of San Pietro, which is surrounded by Roman ruins. It’s a moving blend of spirituality, history, and springtime celebration at one of Abruzzo’s most enchanting archaeological sites.
The Alba Fucens triptych was originally paraded on this feast day but is now kept in a climate-controlled case to ensure its perfect conservation at the nearby museum in the castle at Celano. After mass and more fireworks, the procession returns to San Nicola.
👉 Arrive by 10:00 AM to catch the full procession and Mass. Music, games, and street food can be found in the main town, and of course, if the weather is good you could enjoy an Easter Monday picnic sitting in the amphitheatre.
