Scanno le glorie di san martino

Scanno is home to Abruzzo’s most famous San Martino festival, where three huge bonfires are lit that will later enrich and prepare the earth for winter.

 

If you’re in Abruzzo in November and enjoy autumn nights with community spirit, flickering flames, and old traditions, Le Glorie di San Martino is a must-see. Imagine 3 huge pyres, some as tall as ten metres, lit to honour ancient customs of renewal, with music, laughter, and lots of Vino Novello to chase away negative thoughts towards winter.

 

In the days before the festival, each district builds its own Glorie, a huge structure made from trunks and branches gathered in the nearby mountains. This tradition brings together people of all ages as they prepare and look forward to the event.

 

At 6:30 p.m., as dusk settles, the three bonfires are lit, filling the night sky with a spectacular show of fire and tradition. The scene is stunning, blending history, warmth, and celebration.

 

Tip: Arrive early to find parking and get a good spot to watch!
