Explore Penne’s historical centre & its off-the-beaten-track neighbourhoods, on foot!

Are you curious about the town of Penne? Its old neighbourhoods, locales, shops, services and its best eateries? This is the perfect orientation walk for new residents or holiday home buyers, who want to learn how to navigate the historical centre, get a feel for local Penne business and culture, and pinpoint services/municipal offices, know where to find ‘the best of the best’ for eating, drinking and shopping, and finally to ask questions about living, shopping and accessing services in Penne’s historical centre, from a local foreigner’s perspective.

The walk will be split into 2 halves and take 2 hours (with a coffee and/or lunch break mid-way). First, we start at our meeting point at Piazza Duomo, then proceed to explore the town and its residential neighbourhoods (and nearby services) with easy and scenic navigational routes, which you’ll never find via a GPS or Google. I’ll be pointing out specific locales like shops, good places to eat and drink and various points of administration which will help you if you’re settling in or planning to live full-time or part-time in the town. If you’d like to see and stop by a specific locale that is not on our route, no problem! We can veer a little off-track on request, along the way. Please note this is an orientation walk, NOT a Penne historical tour.

Penne sits between the Apennine Mountains & Adriatic Sea and is the gateway for the National Park of Gran Sasso/Monti della Laga via the Lake Penne Regional Nature Reserve. Penne is also called ‘Città del Mattone’ or ‘City of Bricks,’ as bricks made locally were used in the construction of every historical building and walkway. Throughout the town centre’s neighbourhoods, all sorts of fascinating architecture can be observed.

We will do our best to keep this calendar up to date, however in the case of last-minute cancellations due to adverse weather conditions, Covid outbreaks and so forth this may not always be possible.  In these cases, you should contact the event organiser for a refund as we are not responsible for the events on the calendar, only compiling them into an easy list.  As soon as we have news from an organiser when any event will be rescheduled we will update the calendar accordingly.
