Barisciano Fuoco di San Giovanni
24 June @ 20:00 - 23:30 CEST
Free
Barisciano lights its traditional and very entertaining fire for San Giovanni. This is likely to be something you have never experienced before; we highly recommend a visit!
Throughout Italy, fires are lit in celebration of John the Baptist’s birth, combining farming folklore and pagan and Christian traditions to honour the end of the harvest by burning its chaff along with pruned branches, symbolising healing, purification, and fertility. Dancing around the fire and particularly crossing or jumping the fire showed a boldness & pureness of spirit which later became more of a macho proclamation on the jumper’s manhood, as well as supposed magical healing cures for back pain to eyesight.

There is also the promise of some great arrosticini, panini, beer, and music by Stefano Bernardi.
