#CookForUkraine : Abruzzo – ‘Better Together’ Fundraiser Lunch & Day-Out

CookForUkraine Better Together Lunch

Join us on Sunday 27th March for a #CookForUkraine ‘Better Together’ fundraising lunch.  The day will be filled with relaxing and fun activities like massage, yoga, donkey trekking and horse rides which are perfect for individuals, couples and families to dip into.

It is hosted by Abruzzo’s famous luxury glamping site Cerchio del Desiderio Glamping Retreat,  housed in an olive grove between Loreto Aprutino and Pianella (PE) with panoramic views of the Gran Sasso Mountains.

Better Together Lunch

We will be eating a 2-course yummy Ukrainian lunch consisting of Vareniki, Ukraine’s delicious vegetarian version of ravioli, Kapusniak, their hearty rich pork and spring cabbage soup served with plump pampushki, garlic rolls with a sprinkle of parsley and coriander.  For children who aren’t feeling adventurous, there will be a pasta dish dressed in a tomato sugo available.   1/2 litre of wine per person and coffee are included in the price.  Bottled wines by Ciavolich, De Melis and Rabasco are available as well as drinks at the bar  for an additional cost.   We would ask everyone to bring along their favourite cake or biscuits to share at the event.

We really believe in the soft power of food, as the food writer Johanna Mendelson Forman says it unites us, sharing a meal can build bridges and understanding.  For that reason we are keeping the price of this lunch low to do our best to enable everyone to come in anxious times, €15 per adult and €7.50 per child. We are sourcing as many of the ingredients as possible to keep donations to UNICEF high and costs low. Everyone can participate in each of the activities for adults and children by a small contribution that is 100% donated to UNICEF.

“The great need of displaced people is not just warm clothes but ‘the human background of life’.”

We have already been in touch with the hosts of Ukrainian arrivals to invite them to come to the event for free and eat and do some normal things. There is nothing normal about being separated from family and friends in a war but doing simple things like eating out can be a temporary, small respite for a few hours.
