There are many so many people suffering in Ukraine, within a week they have had to give up their homes, jobs and lives with the people they love. A brutal, unnecessary war unleashed by a neighbouring dictator, frightened by a flourishing democracy. It is difficult to know where to start to help, the task is huge, with whole communities having no shelter, no food, and hope in short supply of the future.
Cook for Ukraine: Abruzzo
But, every little does count, and so we are going to do our best to take part in the international ‘Cook for Ukraine’ initiative, making this happen in Abruzzo and promote fundraising events where they are appropriate across the region. The initiative was created by Ukrainian and Russian bloggers, Alissa Timoshkina and Olia Hercules in London who are raising funds for the children of Ukraine.
Where will Funds Go
Money raised will be donated to Unicef’s Ukraine appeal, to ensure that it is legitimately spent by experts where it is most needed in Ukraine and amongst her refugees which will not incur bureaucracy or border issues.
- €10 Provides 8 packages of antibiotics
€ 25 Provides 4 warm babies blankets
€32 Provides a large first aid kit for a health worker.
€55 Provides a family with an emergency water hygiene kit.
€96 Provides school supplies to help at least 20 children continue their education in an emergency.
Our ‘Cook for Ukraine’ Plan in Abruzzo
LifeinAbruzzo is working on the project with local Ukrainians and fundraisers in the region. We know that pockets aren’t deep at the moment, but if we tier it everyone can be involved and not left out. We hope with your help we can achieve it!

Tier 1 – Host a ‘Cook for Ukraine’ Lunch or Dinner for Friends and Family
Host a small ‘Cook for Ukraine’ fundraising coffee, lunch or dinner at home for you and your friends. The bloggers have given some recipe suggestions which are at the end of this post to help everyone sample the wonderfully rich flavours of Ukrainian cuisine. Don’t forget to share pictures of your dinner party with us on social media or the Life In Abruzzo Facebook group, it may inspire someone else to do the same.
Tier 2 – LifeInAbruzzo Online Peace Raffle
We will be hosting an online Peace Raffle with prizes consisting of donated Abruzzo experiences, local products, food, wine and arts and crafts and accommodation. Have you got a prize you could donate? We hope all our international readers will buy a ticket as the prizes will be valid for a period of time to enjoy or pick up when you are next in Abruzzo or gift to friends and family in Abruzzo. Products are valid for 1 year, experiences and accommodation 18 months.
Tier 4 – Fundraising Dinners
On Sunday 27th March we will be hosting a ‘Welcome Lunch’ for Ukrainians who have arrived in Abruzzo at Cerchio del desiderio. We know there are 47 arriving within the next week. We are in the process of setting up a fundraiser in which people can buy a ticket for the cost of lunch (the price of the ingredients) for one of these new arrivals to Abruzzo and show families a glimpse of normality, ‘eating out’. There will be donkeys, yoga, massage and mindfulness available for them to use for free.

Aiutateci a Raccogliere Fondi per I Bambini Ucraini
Tuttavia, ogni piccolo gesto è importante, e così abbiamo deciso di fare del nostro meglio per partecipare all’ iniziativa International “Cook for Ukraine”, portandola in Abruzzo con la promozione di eventi di raccolta fondi dove possibile in tutta la regione. L’iniziativa per la raccolta di fondi per i bambini dell’Ucraina è state promossa da due blogger londinesi, Alissa Timoshkina (ucraina) e Olia Hercules (russa).
Dove Saranno Destinati i Fondi Raccolti
I fondi raccolti saranno destinati all’appello dell’Unicef per l’Ucraina per assicurarci che siano inviati in maniera legittima dagli operatori che sanno dove servono maggiormente in Ucraina e tra i rifugiati, evitando la burocrazia e problematiche legate ai confini geografici.
€10 fornirà 8 confezioni di antibiotici,
€ 25 fornirà 4 copertine calde per i più piccoli,
€32 fornirà un kit di primo soccorso grande per un operatore sanitario,
€55 fornirà un kit di emergenza per l’acqua con prodotti igienici.
€96 Fornirà materiale scolastico per aiutare almeno 20 bambini a continuare gli studi durante l’emergenza.

La Comunità di LifeinAbruzzo sta lavorando su questo progetto insieme alcuni cittadini ucraini locali e alcuni gruppi di raccolta fondi regionali. Sappiamo che in questo momento le nostre tasche non sono particolarmente ben messe, ma se

Preparare un piccolo pranzo o una cena “Cook for Ukraine” a casa per voi e i vostri amici. Le blogger hanno offerto delle ricette che troverete alla fine del post per far provare ai vostri ospiti i sapori meravigliosi della cucina ucraina. Non dimenticate di condividere fotografie della vostra tavolata sui social oppure nel Gruppo Facebook Life in Abruzzo; potrebbe invogliare qualcun altro a partecipare.
Livello 2 – LifeInAbruzzo Lotteria per la Pace
Faremo una lotteria online consistente in esperienze, escursioni, soggiorni presso strutture ricettive, oggetti artigianali ed hobbistici o prodotti locali come vini e prodotti tipici. Avete un premio da donare? Noi promuoveremo l’acquisto online dei biglietti della lotteria da parte dei nostri lettori internazionali e locali. I premi dovranno avere una validità di almeno un anno, in modo che possano essere ritirati presso il donatore la prossima volta che i vincitori esteri saranno in Italia. I soggiorni presso strutture ricettive dovranno avere una validità di almeno 18 mesi (esclusi i mesi di luglio e agosto). Naturalmente i vincitori locali potranno ritirare il premio subito. Nessun premio potrà essere scambiato per l’equivalente in denaro.

Noi speriamo di facilitare e promuovere delle cene o pranzi Ucraini in ogni provincial in modo che non si debba andare troppo lontano per esplorare la ricchezza di questa cucina in un ristorante. Sappiamo che i carburanti costano molto, quindi
incoraggeremo l’uso di prodotti locali il più possibile per ridurre i costi.
