The 2009 L’Aquila Earthquake

The L’Aquila Earthquake that measured 6.3, occurred on 6th April 2009, devasting Abruzzo’s most beautiful capital city, many of her surrounding villages as well as killing 309 people.

In June 2010, 48,801 people who were so tragically displaced still live in temporary accommodation and require ongoing support, help and knowledge that the rebuilding of their houses and city will be done so promptly and without cutting any corners. It’s going to be a long journey so your support will always be welcome.

To ensure that reconstruction is not just a goal, but a reachable dream, L’Aquila has applied to become the 2019 European Cultural Capital and showcase what European and International cultural co-operation can achieve in rebuilding a shattered city.
