Sulmona Festa a Fuoco

Sulmona’s ancient Spring festival celebrates the arrival of the sun and the good season through the traditional lighting of fires to mark the end of winter on Sunday 14th April.

The Giostra Cavalleresca of Sulmona, organisers of the summer jousting event are aided by the comune’s villages and districts of the city who collect large piles of wood in the previous days to burn on Sunday evening.

As part of the festival, a donkey palio (race)  will take place on Sunday with each of the surrounding villages entering a donkey into the race for the 1st prize.  Food and wine stands as well as music will be available in Sulmona until late at night.
