Events: Sant’ Antonio Abate Feste in Abruzzo

Celebrated around 17 January, the feast of Sant’Antonio Abate is one of Abruzzo’s most widespread winter traditions. Across the region, villages mark the occasion with bonfires, food rituals, animal blessings, and communal gatherings, often beginning on the vigil night of 16th January and continuing in different forms throughout the month. Rooted in rural life and seasonal rhythm, these events reflect a time when fire offered protection, animals were central to survival, and faith shaped everyday life. In many places, the feast also signals the quiet transition from winter devotion toward the Carnival season. Below you’ll find all events and local celebrations in Abruzzo dedicated to Sant’Antonio Abate.
