Tossicia (TE): Il Fuoco di Sant’Antonio

24 January @ 18:00 - 23:30 CET
Tossicia San Antonio Abate

On Saturday 24th January , the people of Tossicia gather to relight the village’s glorious fire in honour of San Antonio d’Abate. The construction of the fire is a marvel in itself!

The village on the slopes of the Gran Sasso will be illuminated to celebrate a tradition that combines devotion and folklore.

The event aims to highlight not only the religious aspect, but also the historical and artistic heritage of Tossicia. The program will begin at 4:00 PM with Holy Mass in the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate and the traditional blessing of the animals in Piazza Sant’Antonio.

From 5:00 PM, we will focus on culture with a cultural walk through the village’s alleys. This itinerary will take you to the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate and the Gran Sasso People’s Museum, immersing you in the origins of the cult and the area’s identity.

The highlight of the event will be at 8:00 PM with a gathering in the square at the end of Via Roma to await the traditional Saint Anthony’s Fire, a symbol of purification and rebirth.

The evening will continue in a convivial atmosphere: we look forward to seeing you there to enjoy traditional dishes accompanied by mulled wine from the Montorio al Vomano Alpine Group. Adding to the excitement will be the bands “The Folk Band” and “Gli Orsi,” who will entertain visitors until late into the evening with music and folk songs.

For the occasion, the Gran Sasso People’s Museum will be open to the public, with free admission, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
