The aim of this eno-gastronomic event is to introduce visitors to the chestnut “Roscetta”, a typical variety of the Valle Roveto and, at the same time, re-evaluate and give new life to the small town of Civitella Roveto. This is a historic village that is a member of the Borgi Autentica Association that opens its cellars and creates atmospheric pop-ups to create the taste and flavours of Autumn. Besides the chestnuts, it will be possible to taste dishes based on truffles and mushrooms, pancakes, jams and sweets typical of the area.

The event colourfully winds you through the town’s narrow alleyways for a festival taste sensation from alley corners, and cellars, think cosy and intimate street food, and check the map to see the whole variety on offer. Journey time from Pescara is 1 r 15 mins, 1 hr 20 mins from Rome.
The town dates back to Roman times and used to be called Petrarolo, in the centre you can still find the remains of the 11th-century castle, the layout of a medieval village here, but due to seismic activity rebuilt itself across the River Liri. It has always been famous for its Roscetta chestnuts so expect plenty today in dishes and roasted!
Pasta and dishes you may encounter and see the names of pallocco, a mixture of corn flour cooked under the grill, the stracciate sagne, the quajiateji, the tacconelle, the grilled lamb, the ‘nchiuvate potatoes, which are jacket potatoes cut in half and cooked, with pork belly, under the embers, in their skins, the donuts – tisichelle – made with oil, wine and sugar and, finally, the respirani, large savoury tortelli , filled with cheese and eggs.
