Slow Hiking Abruzzo – Cascata San Giovanni
An April slow hike in Abruzzo from the ancient pine forest of Piana delle Mele to the 30 m waterfall of Cascata San Giovanni
Join us for a relaxing and rejuvenating morning of walking at an easy pace where the focus is on fully immersing within the nature and landscape around us.
Beginning in the ancient pine forest of the Piana delle Mele, we’ll be walking a 10km circular route for approximately 4 hours. Our route will follow this beautiful forest at around 1000m asl, with openings along the way to spectacular views to the mountains above and the dramatic rock faces of the gorge below. We will eventually drop down to the 30m waterfall of San Giovanni before following the cascading waters to Bocca di Valle, and then the final climb back up through the forest to our starting point.
This walk has been designed to facilitate full immersion in the beauty of nature and our spectacular surroundings by taking our time, having quiet, contemplative moments, and switching off from technology. This is an opportunity suitable for regular walkers looking to unwind, enjoy the fresh air, and connect with a small group of like-minded individuals exploring the landscape of Abruzzo together. Conducted mainly in the English language, these walks are also ideal for anyone wishing to practice the language within a relaxed, supportive, and caring environment.
All our timings and distances covered in these slow hikes are approximate so we can tailor-make each session depending on the needs of the group and the opportunities we encounter along the way. There will be hills to climb, and uneven ground to cover, but we will also take the time to sit, to look, and to just listen.
NB: Please note that due to the unpredictable nature of the weather and conditions in this mountainous region, we may have to change the location of the event (or postpone) if we consider the conditions to be detrimental to your safety, comfort and enjoyment.

We will do our best to keep this calendar up to date, however in the case of last-minute cancellations due to adverse weather conditions, Covid outbreaks and so forth this may not always be possible.
