L’Aquila Vintage and Antique Roadshow by the Abruzzo Restore Squad
Saturday 20 April 2024 @ 09:15 - 17:00 CEST
€75
Vintage, Antiques and Collectables Pop-Up Day
Join us on Saturday 20th April in celebrating the timeless allure of vintage and antique shopping in L’Aquila, the newly crowned Italian Capital of Culture 2026 and the launch of our Abruzzo Restore Squad project.
Led by Katja and Andrew from Exploring Abruzzo, two of the eight members of the Abruzzo Restore Squad, you are invited to dive into a treasure trove of history, culture and style as they share their favourite independent mercatini usato (second-hand, vintage and pre-loved shops). After this it is off for a delicious local lunch, followed by getting your books valued. Post lunch our afternoon is spent on an exclusive visit to a cultural hotspot that allows you to bag a bargain or a Velazquez depending on your budget!
Katja and Andrew are avid collectors of vintage and antique. Together they will show you where they have found the best bargains for their Palazzo San Benedetto and their holiday rental apartment in Sulmona. None of the shops you will visit are part of the ‘mercatino usato’ franchise, each is independent. Rummage at your own pace through quirky and classic homewares and standout Italian vintage clothing and accessories on the lookout for bargains and original items and reasonably priced higher value items when later we visit the acclaimed auction house!
Programme
Our day begins at 9.15 am when we meet for a coffee, cornetto and chat at Mokà Cafè – L’Aquila Stazione before we head off via convoy to Katja and Andrew’s favourite vintage second-hand shops.
After our morning visits, we’ll enjoy a delicious local-themed lunch; the 3-course menu is
House Antipasti
(Amatriciana cold cuts with Campotosto mortadella, mixed cheeses, local organic bean and cereal dishes)
Mixed Crostini
Aubergine Parmigiana
***
Almond and Saffron Gnocchi
***
Tiramisu
Water, house wine and coffee are included
For those who would like a free book valuation, you are invited to bring your books along to the lunch where Roddy Newlands, a Life In Abruzzo associate member and rare book specialist, will be on hand to tell you a little more about whether your much-loved treasure is worth a little more than you thought.
After lunch we have our surprise, our exclusive visit to L’Aquila’s prestigious auction house which Katja and Andrew have arranged to open especially for the Life In Abruzzo community. In their stunning renaissance palazzo, you will discover a different way to shop: affordable, environmentally friendly, authentic and unique!

Before we leave L’Aquila we have one more mercatino to visit which is back towards the A24 and A25 before we say goodbye!
Price €75 pp, a 10% discount is applied at checkout if 2 tickets or more are purchased. Ticket sales close on 12th April 2024.
