Best Abruzzo Pizzerie Trail

Pizza Wood

Our handy trail of the best places in Abruzzo to grab a slice of pizza (pizza al taglio), which is sold by weight and is Italy’s national ‘fast food’, or to sit back and enjoy a ‘rotondo’ and enjoy the whole plate to yourself!

In addition to all the usual favourites, expect to find delicious regional toppings heavily influenced by the local seasonal agriculture and the region’s coast.  For example with the addition of saffron or the region’s plentiful truffles, even porchetta.  There are plenty of ‘pizza bianca’ options to sample and you cannot leave or say you have visited Abruzzo without trying the fabled potato and sausage option.  Crust wise, expect to find a mixture of Napolitan with a puffed crust that is cooked for just 90 seconds or the skinnier, crisper Roman-style version.

We have included the 3 Gambero Rosso winners for Abruzzo as well as the Life In Abruzzo Facebook group’s favourites!
