Perched at roughly 1,000 m on the eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso, Fano Adriano is a peaceful medieval mountain village that makes a wonderful gateway to the Gran Sasso National Park. Alpine meadows, beech forests, and scenic hiking and cycling trails surround it. It is now twinned with Navelli (AQ) and growing saffron so expect exciting experiences around this fabulous spice!
Locally, you'll find a café that doubles up as a general grocery store and pizzeria in the evening, a fantastic vegan restaurant and a family-run trattoria and agriturismo serving authentic mountain fare.
The village hosts unique experiences that reflect its community spirit. A highlight: a sunset gatherings at the local hermitage should not be missed to watch the mountain peaks turn pink. Do try scurpelle (a traditional rustic pastry predating the better-known scripelle) served with music and stargazing—a beautiful ritual for families and nature lovers alike.
While major festivals take place in nearby Fano, Fano Adriano offers a tranquil, immersive escape rooted in nature, tradition, and local warmth.
