Panfilo Farmhouse is a gorgeous family-run Abruzzo B&B with an infinity pool, nestled in a breathtaking Teramo valley just outside the small hilltop medieval town of Cellino Attanasio. Its nearest Blue Flag beach is Pineto, just a short 30-minute drive away. Their rooms and apartments can sleep up to 12 people and are ideal for couples, families, or a small travel group.

The B&B owners, Annamaria and Lino, are ex-farmers who, when they retired, decided to convert their family dairy farm into a scenic B&B. They are generous, empathetic and friendly hosts who really show off what Abruzzese hospitality means.
Breakfast Feasts
Lucky guests can enjoy AnnaMaria’s superb cooking skills, she used to work as a cook at a local agriturismo, and her delicious breakfasts are organic, extensive in choice and change daily. On the most recent night that I stayed I was offered fresh fruits, a selection cheeses & salami, tomatoes, an assortment of breads and home-made jams, home preserved cherries, grilled courgettes with slithers of pecorino, Pipindun e ova (fried sweet peppers and egg), pistacchio & ricotta tart, poached eggs with ham, crisp rolls with Philadelphia cheese, her own local pastries, coffee and juice! It made me think of the traditional extensive farmer’s breakfast ‘sdijuno’ that was eaten in the Gran Sasso & Majella Mountains at 11.00 am and is one of the reasons the elderly are famously healthy in Abruzzo. AnnaMaria’s never-empty home-made cookie tin and a pick of sweeties for my son to dip into was a great hit!
The breakfast area is hosted in the newly restored barn, which offers stunning views over the valley and a fireplace lounge area to enjoy on cooler evenings
If you put in a request and she has time, do have a cooking lesson, you’ll get to savour even more of her home-grown vegetables and fruits. The superb grassy olive oil is from their groves and available for sale
Animal Petting Corner
Lino is a great surrogate grandfather, who is accompanied by trusty Armandino, his sweet little dog and takes little ones on a tractor ride to meet and feed the goats, chickens and cat. A local shepherd walks his flock through the farm every other day, so you may get to meet his girls too.

The B&B has 2 beautifully decorated suites with a private kitchen, living area, ensuite bathrooms and garden that suit both a couple or a family in the larger Vulcanello Suite. There are also 3 airy rustic double rooms each with ensuite bathrooms. Each is perfect for those who find stairs a challenge. They are ideal if you are looking for an affordable romantic getaway or extended family break and who want to let their children roam safe and freely.
Each air-conditioned room is spacious and light, with locally sourced accessories that bring a sense of storytelling and poetry to each room. Each has its own private entrance and elegant en-suite bathroom. Impeccable bathrooms, great water pressure, endless hot water and a spacious walk in shower are always a personal favourite!
Facilities
Guests have access to the infinity pool and sun loungers, the hot-tub that is great to look up at the stars from. There is a barbecue pit for use by guests and vegetables are available upon request from AnnaMaria’s kitchen garden. The well-tended and extensive gardens are a pleasure to roam and photograph during the golden hour. There are plenty of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and you can order an evening aperitivo too!
Cellino Attanasio
The pretty nearby hilltop town of Cellino Attanasio dates back to the Bronze Age, and its small alleys and piazzas are perfect for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of fast city life. It sits 430 metres above sea level and has superb views over the province of Teramo and the Adriatic Sea. It has plenty of good, affordable restaurants and agriturismi to try the much-praised local Teramana cuisine.
For beach lovers, Roseto degli Abruzzi is the closest (30 minutes away), with an array of lidos and services. For something more peaceful and surrounded by nature, Pineto (35 minutes away) offers a beautiful pine forest by the sea. So there are both options, almost at the same distance
