Pratola Peligna

Nestled in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo region and the Valle Peligna, Pratola Peligna is a charmingly quaint town that borders the Maiella Geo Park. It is a 12 minute journey to Sulmona, 45 minute drive to the beach at Pescara and just 1.5 hours to Rome. It offers a perfect blend of rustic beauty and convenient connectivity. New foreign residents to the town can enjoy a 7% flat tax rate for up to 9 years if moving here.

With its picturesque landscape dominated by the imposing Mount Morrone, this gem is surprisingly accessible, just a stone's throw from the A25 autostrada for Rome or to the beach; it is where you would change for Sulmona if travelling from Rome. It's popular amongst hikers, mountainbikers and riders, for local walks and and that the train stops here.. Like so many of the region's towns it fills up with local families returning from afar every summer.

Its streets are a medieval maze and every corner tells a centuries-old story. Fruitful vistas include lush vineyards, ancient olive groves and plenty of playful sunflowers; on the doorstep is the much-acclaimed Margiotta winery. The town's small but vibrant market is held every Friday and features the produce of local farmers for 0km eating. The beans grown around Pratola Peligna are legendary and known as poverelli, both white (like a think skinned cannellini bean that requires no soaking) and a small borlotti bean. It is also the home to the much loved family pasta brand, Masciarelli.

From January 1st 2024, the Italian government included Abruzzo in the SEZ (Special Economic Zones) which ensures those who purchase a commercial business in Abruzzo can request important tax breaks.

It is expected that the town will receive a further tourism boost when L'Aquila, just an hour's drive away, becomes Italian Capital of Culture in 2026.
