Slow Hiking on Piana del Ginepro
Join us for a relaxing afternoon of walking slowly together until the sun goes down.
We’ll be walking a 10km circular route up on the Piana del Ginepro: a vast open plain steeped in history, which lies at around 900m asl above the small village of Serramonacesca (the land of the monks), and stretches all the way to Passo Lanciano. We will be stepping back in time to a rural way of peasant life as we walk past a number of well preserved Tholos (ancient round stone shepherd’s dwellings) and evidence of terracing and stone where the corn was once grown and then ground before taking it down the mountain.
This walk has been designed to facilitate full immersion in the beauty of nature and our spectacular surroundings by taking our time, having quiet, contemplative moments, and switching off from technology. This is an opportunity suitable for regular walkers looking to unwind, enjoy the fresh air and history, and connect with a small group of like-minded individuals exploring the landscape of Abruzzo together.
All our timings and distances covered in these slow hikes are approximate so we can tailor-make each session depending on the needs of the group and the opportunities we encounter along the way. There will be hills to climb, and uneven ground to cover, but we will also take the time to sit, to look, and to just listen.
NB: Please note that due to the unpredictable nature of the weather and conditions in this mountainous region, we may have to change the location of the event (or postpone) if we consider the conditions to be detrimental to your safety, comfort and enjoyment.

We will do our best to keep this calendar up to date, however in the case of last-minute cancellations due to adverse weather conditions, Covid outbreaks and so forth this may not always be possible. In these cases, you should contact the event organiser for a refund as we are not responsible for the events on the calendar, only compiling them into an easy list. As soon as we have news from an organiser when any event will be rescheduled we will update the calendar accordingly.
