Slow Hike – Piana del Ginepro

Friday 3 January 2025 @ 10:00 - 15:00 CET
€25

If getting outside and immersing yourself in nature, even in the winter, appeals to you, or if you need inspiration and a group of like-minded people to share the experience with,  join us on  Friday 3rd January for our first  ‘Slow Hike’ of the year on Piana del Ginepro, Serramonacesca (PE)!

Our refreshing and revitalising day of slow hiking up on the Piana del Ginepro, Serramonacesca is ideal for those looking to blow away their festive excesses, the perfect way to kick start your New Year, enjoy the fresh air, and connect with like-minded individuals.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting out, everyone is welcome to join but we do recommend that you are comfortable with hills and happy over a distance of around 10km. All our timings and distances covered are approximate so we can tailor-make each session depending on the needs of the group and opportunities we encounter along the way.

** In the event of snow , snowshoes and poles may be required which can be hired or purchased from Decathlon, Chieti. This will be the responsibility of each participant. Alternatively, if the access road is inaccessible, we may need to change the location. For either eventuality, you will be advised well in advance.

A Taste of the Terrain and Views

Our Abruzzo Slow Hikes

Our slow hikes are a small group of like-minded people exploring this lovely Abruzzo landscape together, where the emphasis is on experiencing the beauty of our natural world as we walk together, rather than how far, fast or how high we climb.  At times during our hike we will walk in silence, but we will also chat and share and connect.  We will climb hills and cover the ground, but we will also take the time to sit and look, to listen and just be.  We will disconnect completely from technology, but there will also be time for a few meaningful photographs.

Although we will be walking slowly and following recognised trails, there will undoubtedly be steep climbs and descents to negotiate as well as rough ground, possibly overgrown and muddy at times.  No technical skills, clothing or equipment will be required, but we do recommend a general level of fitness (the sort of person more likely to take the stairs than the escalator), and clothing/footwear suitable to the season and location (full details will be provided, but please ask if you have any questions or concerns).  We do recommend hiking poles if you have them, but we also have a few that we can lend to you if needed.  You will be responsible for your own snacks, packed lunch and water.
