‘Secret Chieti’ Tour & Guided Walk

6 March @ 09:45 - 13:00 CET

€30

 Chieti Photo by Pete Austin

On Thursday 6th of March join Max & Kharen for another fantastic walk to discover the secrets of the beautiful city of Chieti, another of the shiniest hidden gems of Abruzzo.

You will meet at the historic Caffé Vittoria under the arcade of Corso Marrucino at 9.45, in time for a good espresso to kick start the day. Afterwards, a 5-minute walk to Chieti’s largest square, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, also known as Piazza San Giustino, as it is the location of the magnificent Cathedral of San Giustino and where we will meet our fantastic and expert guide Kharen.

Chieti CathedralThis Roman-style cathedral is dedicated to the Patron saint of Chieti, San Giustino. The church is believed to have been built in the first century A.D. on the ruins of a temple that is believed to be dedicated to Hercules or Jupiter, and existed until 801 when the city of Chieti was almost completely destroyed by Pepin. Its bell tower was built in 1335 and completed only in 1498, and at the far end of the Cathedral, the Saint Giustino Crypt has been brought back to its beautiful original features thanks to extensive restoration work in the early 70’s which revealed amazing 14th-century frescos.

We will continue our walk along the main Corso Marrucino, Chieti’s high street, with its elegant palaces, such as the Bank of Italy palace, the arcade, the Marrucino Theatre, built at the beginning of the 18th century, and the beautiful Corso, which really transports you back to a great time of elegance and “DolceVita.”

We will then walk by the little Roman Temples to arrive at the amazing Museum della Civitella, where with Kharen we will travel back to the “Teate Romani” and the times of gladiators and religion.

After the visit we can have a light lunch at the Caffé Vittoria under the arcade along the Corso Marrucino, or any of the other places to eat in Chieti centre.

The cost is €30 per person and payable on the day. Please bring the correct money with you.
