Profile
Open from March to October, Kokopelli Camping Retreat is slow camping and low-impact glamping surrounded by nature within the foothills of the Maiella mountains in Abruzzo.
With a strong environmental ethos, no large tents and only a few small campervans, even in high season you can escape the crowds and find tranquillity. Our numbers are strictly limited, we don’t accept large groups and we keep the number of children to a maximum of 6 – 8 at any one time. If you don’t want to travel with all the kit, or if you’re new to camping, we have everything you need here included in the price (cooking pots and pans, plates, cutlery, camping stoves, etc). We have a small selection of tents, mattresses and sleeping bags for hire from only €2 per night, and we also offer a “glamping” option with ready erected canvas tents.
To fully immerse and gain the best experience in the natural and wild nature of Abruzzo, we have a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for hiking and climbing in this area. We can offer help and advice on both, with plenty of self-guided hikes, maps and climbing topos for you to browse. We can also organise climbing instructors, hiking guides or bike hire should you need it.
For a more tranquil experience, we also offer the Japanese art of Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing), guided meditations in nature, plus the occasional Yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi sessions.
With our chilled outlook, stunning location, peace and tranquillity, Kokopelli Camping Retreat is an ideal place to rebalance, reconnect and recharge.

Location
Our nearby town of Serramonacesca has 2 cafe/bars, 2 restaurants, one in the heart of the village and one just outside the village next to the Abbazia di San Liberatore and the Alento river. There are some handy small shops including a general food store, a pharmacy, a butcher, and the local shepherding family has a small shop where they sell their own sheep cheese, arrosticini and salami. The fruit and vegetable seller is in the piazza on Tuesday and Friday mornings. There is a mobile pizza van on Tuesday evenings and porchetta van on Friday evenings, both of which can be purchased and then enjoyed in one of the two bars. On a Thursday from 6.30pm the Bar Dello Sport sells hot, spicy chicken wings, but get there early as they sell out fast. The nearest recommended winery is the organic Tenuta Arabona of Manoppello.
