L'Aquila

Single room rental with inspiring view, private bathroom and balcony just outside L’Aquila, the handsome regional capital of Abruzzo and Italian Capital of Culture 2026. It’s is a 90-minute drive from both Rome airports, an hour’s drive from the Adriatic coast, and just 2 miles from the historic old town centre.

L’Aquila was always worth a visit, but more so now, because it’s been meticulously and stylishly restored in recent years. This summer the town’s lively with concerts, shows and exhibitions, and there’s lots to admire architecturally. Good for shopping ( including some beautiful high-end stores ) and there’s quite a range of trattorias, restaurants and pizzerias. too. In the evenings, you can try out Via Garibaldi and Piazza Regina Margherita for buzzy café life and people-watching. The room for rent could be a practical choice if you’re here to look for property to buy in Abruzzo and need a base.

Best if you have your own transport, and a great choice for the serendipitous solo traveller. From here, you can explore the Gran Sasso massif and the quaint mountain villages of Castel del Monte and Santo Stefano with its Medici tower. We have a locked backyard which motorbikers love, or you can park your car on the street nearby. Safe for women guests, good wifi, limited kitchen access. I live in the house, am sociable (if you want),  and I’m also happy to take you around the area for a mutually acceptable fee.( I’ve lived and worked here since 1983 off and on for a total of 17 years, speak good Italian, and know the region well, especially the 100 km radius around L’Aquila ).
