For today’s door, here’s something simple and warming for winter and the holiday period: 2 versions of a Nocino Old Fashioned.

Nocino, the traditional walnut liqueur found in many Abruzzese homes, made back in June with green walnuts, brings depth and gentle sweetness to this classic American cocktail. It’s a cosy winter drink to enjoy slowly, perfect after a walk or before dinner.
Ingredients
- 30 ml Bourbon
- 20 ml Nocino
- 1–2 drops Angostura Bitters
- Orange Peel
Method
- Stir all the liquids with ice for a few seconds.
- Strain into a small tumbler over fresh ice.
- Twist an orange peel and lay it in the glass at the side
The result is warm, nutty and lightly spiced, with a soft winter finish.
The soft winter edition has a lower alcohol content and is ideal for those who prefer a smoother and lighter Christmas drink that still has warmth and flavour.
Ingredients
- 20 ml Bourbon
- 20 ml Nocino
- 10 ml water or 10 ml Apple Cider
- 1 drop Angostura Bitters
- Orange Peel
Method
- Stir briefly with ice, then pour over fresh ice in a small glass.
Make a twist with an orange peel and lay it in the side of the glass
This version keeps the same winter character of walnut, orange, and spice, but has a softer, rounder profile that fits slow December evenings.
